The data were presented during a public event organized at the NBS headquarters, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, the Delegation of the European Union, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The event gathered representatives of central and local public authorities, national and international partners, civil society, academia, and the media.

The published results reflect key geographical and demographic characteristics of the population — including distribution by sex, area of residence, population density, and regional breakdown. Methodological explanations were also provided regarding the determination of usual residence and data processing.

“The presentation of the PHC 2024 results marks the beginning of the data dissemination stage,” said Oleg Cara, Director General of the NBS. “The use of modern technologies has enabled us to obtain more accurate data in a shorter timeframe, which enhances the informational value of the census.”

In their messages, officials and development partners emphasized the crucial role of the census in developing data-driven public policies to support sustainable economic and social development.

Radu Marian, Chair of the Parliament’s Committee on Economy, Budget, and Finance, thanked the nearly 5,000 people involved in the census, acknowledging their efforts to provide a clear and up-to-date picture of the population.

Andrei Strah, Deputy Secretary General of the Government, stated: “With this data at hand, we can design better-targeted policies in areas such as education, health, infrastructure, and regional development — all for the benefit of our citizens.”

Adam Grodzicki, Deputy Head of the Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation, stressed that the census provides the Republic of Moldova with a solid foundation for effective, development-oriented policymaking in the face of demographic challenges.

Karina Nersesyan, UNFPA Representative in Moldova, highlighted the inclusive nature of the census: “The census was conducted in accordance with international standards and included even the most vulnerable population groups. The data collected will inform equitable policies and support social cohesion.”

All materials related to the summary final results — including tables, maps, and infographics — can be accessed on the official NBS website under the 2024 Census / Final Results section: www.statistica.gov.md.

The National Bureau of Statistics extends its sincere thanks to all citizens who participated in the census, as well as to the enumerators, supervisors, and all partners involved. The publication of detailed final results is planned progressively over the next 18 months.
