Migrants originating from 25 localities – the beneficiaries of the Migration and Local Development Project (MiDL) get involved in solving community problems together with the local authorities, as they want better life conditions for those left behind. Hence, it is for the first time, when the Diaspora Days are celebrated in 15 out of 25 target localities of MiDL during August 19-21, 2016.
Y-PEER Moldova, the peer-to-peer education network, launched today the 2016 National Social Theatre Festival. The Festival is organised in partnership with UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Moldova.
The United Nations in the Republic of Moldova launched today the 12th edition of the competition for the best actions to promote and protect human rights in the Republic of Moldova. Organized since 2004, the competition aims to highlight and award creative, innovative, effective, timely and engaged human rights initiatives and actions.

During the 2016 admission the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) will use for the first time a computer-based testing platform to examine the candidates who are applying for the position of trainee judge and trainee prosecutor. The functionality has been developed with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark offered through the Project "Strengthening technical capacities of the national institutions for the human rights protection and promotion", implemented by UNDP Moldova.
30 women from under-represented groups were selected, as a result of a full and open competition, to participate in the Capacity Building Programme for strengthening their skills to advocate and to promote gender equality in decision making. In the beginning, women across the country participate for two days, on September 8-9, in a training on gender equality, on the importance of cooperation at the community level, building a consensus among the underrepresented groups and the creation of alliances on common topics. The last training day will be dedicated for carrying out informative visits to relevant institutions from Chișinău, such as Ministry of Labor, Family, and Social Protection, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health, the Parliament of Moldova, et.al.
UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova, Dafina Gercheva, on behalf of the UN Country Team, extended her sincere congratulations on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, celebrated yearly on 15 September. “On this occasion, we take a moment to underscore the perennial values and importance of strong, accountable and transparent institutions, rule of law and democratic norms for the development of sustainable, inclusive and prosperous societies”, noted Dafina Gercheva.
National Mentorship Program for Women Councilors "INSPIR-O!", with a duration of one year, was completed. After five training modules on topics related to leadership, gender awareness, good governance and community mobilization, risk management, etc., the 24 women councilors across the country, including from ATU of Gagauzia, which were part of the program, implemented 24 community initiatives.
