To raise awareness around the process of nationalization of the Global Goals by the Republic Moldova, the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova organized the Social Good Summit 2016 featuring partnerships between public, private and social sector around Agenda 2030.
13 community mediators who ensure the communication between the Roma people and authorities took part in a comprehensive human rights training during 12-16 September. They learned how to identify the discrimination cases and help the Roma people to claim their rights, including how to address petitions and application to the mayoralty, court or Equality Council. They are also better equipped with knowledge and skills to help Roma people accessing education, medical services, social assistance and other facilities available in their community.
Sweden is a long-term partner to Moldova in promoting gender equality and women human rights through political dialogue and through development cooperation programs. On September 19, 2016, the Government of Sweden, represented by the Embassy of Sweden in Moldova, and UN Women Moldova, the United Nations’ Entity for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, have signed a new agreement for the period 2016-2020.
After 10 months of work, 32 media outlets from Moldova signed on Monday, September 19, a commitment to promote gender equality in journalistic materials. Thus, the newsrooms committed to reflect in a more balanced way both women and men in their materials, including to grant to the articles or TV programs with women as protagonists at least 25 percent of editorial space or airtime. Another commitment is to report consistently on women entrepreneurs, women`s involvement in politics and public administration and promote the importance of participation of both parents in children's education. Journalists have also committed to use a gender sensitive, non-sexist language and balanced images when reporting on the work of women and men.
TheUN Country Team and its partners are conducting a Strategic Prioritization Event on 20 September 2016. This is a key step in the development of the 2018-2022 UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for the Republic of Moldova.
A training center will be established in Moldova at the initiative and with the support of the Energy and Biomass Project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to deliver ongoing and qualified training to the Moldovan operators of biomass heating systems.
Starting from this year, master students from the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova will study a new mandatory course – “Gender Responsive Budgeting" (GRB). Moldova is the first country in the region to introduce this discipline in the university curriculum.
Members of the Austrian Parliament, Parliament of Moldova and members of civil society, active in promoting gender equality, discussed on October 5, during a working meeting, about experience of Moldova and Austria in promoting women's participation in politics and decision-making, addressing, also, the gender responsive budgeting topic.
