08 September 2016

  • 30 women from under-represented groups were selected, as a result of a full and open competition, to participate in the Capacity Building Programme for strengthening their skills to advocate and to promote gender equality in decision making. In the beginning, women across the country participate for two days, on September 8-9, in a training on gender equality, on the importance of cooperation at the community level, building a consensus among the underrepresented groups and the creation of alliances on common topics. The last training day will be dedicated for carrying out informative visits to relevant institutions from Chișinău, such as Ministry of Labor, Family, and Social Protection, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health, the Parliament of Moldova, et.al.

Olga, one of the participants and member of the Association of Entrepreneurs with Disabilities, is convinced that the women`s participation in our society is crucial and she expressed her gratitude that she was selected in this program. "I hope that, thanks to the program, my knowledge and my leadership skills will be increased and that it will be created an effective network of cooperation between us, the participants," pointed out Olga.

The initiative aims to strengthen the skills and capacities of women leaders from the under-represented groups – women representing ethnic minorities, including Roma, women with disabilities, women migrants - in advocacy, leadership, communications and public speaking. The programme is built in 3 stages - training, visits and exchanges, mentoring. Afterwards, the participants will examine case studies, will have to do homework, taking into account lessons learned and experience gained and being supported by experienced mentors.

The training program, which begins in September and ends in November, 2016, is implemented by Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul”, with the support of the UN Programme "Women in Politics", implemented by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with East-European Foundation and Center “Partnership for Development”, financially supported by the Government of Sweden.
