Residents of Tomai village from ATU Gagauzia have a new central road, which was rehabilitated by using an innovative technology. The 600-meter street that connects the main public institutions was rebuild with vibro-pressed paving slabs. The road has a modern rainwater drainage system, a power-efficient lighting network, road signs and road markings.
It is for the first time for the Republic of Moldova, when Soroca and Stefan Voda districts got valuable tools for environment protection: passports for rare species of plants and animals, as well as rare habitats’ handbooks. All these, alongside with eco-touristic guides were developed with the support of the UNDP Project “Mainstreaming biodiversity conservation into Moldova’s territorial planning policies and land use practices”, financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova, UNDP Moldova awards local trademarks involved in the implementation of 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda within the competition “Trademark of the Year”.
Valentina Rotari, 23, is pursuing a master’s degree in the Education and Culture department at “Alecu Russo” State University in Balti, a small town north of Moldova’s capital, Chisinau. At the end of May, for the first time, Rotari participated in public discussions on gender equality and women's rights, organized by UN Women in Moldova with financial support from the government of Sweden. We talked to her after the event about how her views about gender equality have changed.
On 28 May – 1 June 2018 I have visited the Republic of Moldova, where I had meetings with decision-makers, civil society, development partners and other actors on both banks of Nistru-river. This visit comes as a follow-up to my 2013 Report, which provided 38 specific recommendations in 13 different areas covering a broad range of human rights issues in the Transnistrian region. I have visited institutions and facilities in Tiraspol, Bender and Ribnita.
The World Environment Day became an expected occasion in the Republic of Moldova. The program with resting in hammocks, music on vinyl records selected by DJ Gonzo, exhibitions, making clay pots and decorations from recyclable objects, balancing on a rope, tourism workshops, excursions to the Botanical Garden greenhouses, yard sale with natural products, concert of Via Daca band gathered on Saturday, 2 June, over 2000 people in the Botanical Garden.
Artists and craftspeople from 15 communities along the Nistru’s cliffs met on Saturday in Rascov village, on the left bank. The festival “Cultural ferry Rascov – Vadul Rascov” took place at the Cultural Hall, renovated with EU and Polish AID support in the framework of the "Support to confidence building measures” (SCBM) Programme, implemented by UNDP.
Green technologies and good music were the stars of SUN Dă-I Fest Festival, which took place this Sunday in the Public Garden Stefan cel Mare. The good mood was fuelled by many competitions and exhibitions for children and adults. Reaching its sixth edition, the Sun Dă-I Fest is organized by the Moldova Energy and Biomass Project – funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme -, Energy Efficiency Agency and Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure. The festival culminated the EU Sustainable Energy Week in the R. Moldova that took place during 4 to 10 June.
