United Nations in Moldova and Moldcell will collaborate to implement the Sustainable Development Goals
11 November 2020
Today, 11 November, the United Nations in Moldova and Moldcell, part of CG Corp Global, have signed the Memorandum of Understanding to contribute to the implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Republic of Moldova.
The SDGs are the United Nations’ blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.
The Memorandum puts the basis of different partnerships between Moldcell and UN agencies present in Moldova to further explore the possibilities of developing activities or projects that support Moldova’s sustainable development. At the same time, the aim is to encourage companies to do business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption core principles.
“The UN in Moldova remains a key partner in supporting Moldova’s Sustainable Development Goals nationalization and implementation process. At the same time, we must acknowledge that the achievement of the Global Goals can be realized only if we work together: Government, business sector, community and individuals. It is even more important in the context of the crisis we are currently facing. I welcome this Partnership Framework with Moldcell and hope other economic agents will follow the example and unite for a better world.” mentioned Simon Springett, Resident Coordinator of UN Moldova
In September 2015, all (193) Members States of the United Nations, including the Republic of Moldova have committed to implement the SDGs and Agenda 2030, while in over 150 countries, more than 11,500 companies are contributing to the implementation of the global goals.
“During 20 years of its activity on the market of Moldova Moldcell proved to be the true benchmark and promoter of Corporate Social Responsibility and Responsible Business. We have been supporting the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals by implementing and supporting hundreds of social development projects but also by the way we operate our business – in a responsible ethical way, uniting the Moldovan business eco-system to help Moldova be a better place to live, work and make business. Today we are reconfirming our commitment and feel proud to be the first private company in Moldova to officially sign the Memorandum of Understanding to contribute to the implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Republic of Moldova.” said Barkin Secen, CEO of Moldcell.
