In 2021, The United Nations in Moldova, formed of 25 UN agencies, funds programmes and other UN entities, together with its partners, made progress in all four strategic directions of its work, by advancing human rights and gender equality, strengthening institutional and governance capacities, improving access to decent work and enhancing local services and infrastructure, improving the quality of education, health services, and social assistance, and promoting climate change resilient.

Today, UN Women facilitated an informative video session was held with the aim of exchanging good practices among organizations active in the field of gender-based and domestic violence, members of the National Coalition ‘Life Without Domestic Violence’ and relevant organizations from Romania, such as the Association for Liberty and Equality of Gender – A.L.E.G., and the Association of Pas Alternativ (Alternative Step), which provide services for women and girls affected by violence.
The first lot of personal protection equipment (PPE) in the value of 23 500 USD containing locally produced respiratory protection masks and disinfectant solutions was delivered this week to 36 Territorial structures of social assistance across the country. The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and Swedish Government thus complemented the efforts of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection to help Moldova’s frontline social assistance personnel providing services for victims of domestic violence and for the most vulnerable groups of persons to continue their activity and to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. A total number of 3279 of social assistants and social workers are benefiting from this support.

- The Republic of Moldova intends to adjust the national legislation on combating violence and harassment in the world of work to align with the provisions of the Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No 190) of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The process of ratifying the ILO Convention on combating violence and harassment in the world of work was initiated in April this year on the platform of the Women's Caucus in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

The Republic of Moldova joined the Agenda 2030 and committed to implement the 17 SDGs through combined efforts of key stakeholders to eliminate all forms of poverty, combat inequalities and tackle environmental and climate change, ensuring that no one is left behind. Since 2017 the country is going through the process of nationalization and adaptation of SDGs to its local context.
