• GENEVA (6 November 2022) – The UN Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons, Claudia Mahler, will conduct an official visit to the Republic of Moldova from 7 to 16 November 2023.

• The Republic of Moldova intends to adjust the national legislation on combating violence and harassment in the world of work to align with the provisions of the Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No 190) of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The process of ratifying the ILO Convention on combating violence and harassment in the world of work was initiated in April this year on the platform of the Women's Caucus in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

• More than 50 refugees from Ukraine temporarily accommodated in Moldova have enrolled in vocational training courses.

• The COVID-19 pandemic, but also recent multiple crises, led to a series of changes and effects on the population, all of these reflecting on women and men differently, both economically and socially. This is also determined by the fact that women and men have different roles both in society and family.

In 2021, The United Nations in Moldova, formed of 25 UN agencies, funds programmes and other UN entities, together with its partners, made progress in all four strategic directions of its work, by advancing human rights and gender equality, strengthening institutional and governance capacities, improving access to decent work and enhancing local services and infrastructure, improving the quality of education, health services, and social assistance, and promoting climate change resilient.

• UN Human Rights Adviser in Moldova has today launched a study into how the COVID-19 pandemic affected human rights in the country. The report, entitled “Impact of COVID-19 on Human Rights in the Republic of Moldova” and conducted on both banks of Nistru river, pays particular attention to the rights of the most vulnerable groups.
