One step further in successful implementation of Law on employment promotion and unemployment insurance

This activity is part of the measures supported by the ILO to support the finalization and implementation of the law on employment promotion and unemployment insurance, approved by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in the first reading, this April.    

It is worth reiterating that the law is aimed at unemployment, its reduction and prevention of its social effects, as well as unemployment anticipation and ensuring a high level of employment and labour force adaptation to the requirements of the modern labour market.

According to the law, active employment measures are addressed at the unemployed and employers, and are granted with the purpose either to boost the employment chances or to create new jobs, or facilitate the access to job vacancies.  

Moldovan employment agencies, with the ILO support, have already piloted some of these active measures, such as on-the-job training. Sixty-five young unemployed were trained on-the-job within this program. At the end of the training, the employers hired 61 of them where the professional training was held. This intervention represents a solution allowing young unemployed to integrate into the labour market and is directly aligned to one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals: promotion of inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all (Goal 8).  ILO contributes to these objectives with diverse interventions related to employment promotion and boosting the transition from school to the first job.

In addition to technical expertise provided by the ILO consultant, the representatives of MHLSP and the National Employment Agency (NEA) as implementer of the law will benefit from training and guidance in view of successful implementation of the law on employment promotion and unemployment insurance entering into force in January 2019.
