District presidents, mayors and other civil servants are informed how to effectively counter COVID-19 in online discussions with the main national decision-makers

15 April 2020

During 13-15 April, presidents of districts, mayors and civil servants participated in online conferences with the specialists of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection and of the World Health Organization, organized with the support of UNDP Moldova and the Congress of Local Public Authorities. The participants discussed the measures to be taken at local level to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, but also the actions to be performed during the Easter holidays.

The representatives of the local public authorities were informed about the epidemiological situation at the district and national level, the measures undertaken at central level for the prevention and control of the new virus, including during the Easter holidays, as well as the strengthening of the communication channels and effective raising awareness efforts on the risk of infection and preventing the spread of the disease.

"It is an opportunity for you to ask the most pressing questions you face in your community, so that you can further actively coordinate and effectively manage disease prevention and spread in each locality. You represent a huge potential and I would like to thank you for being on the front line in the fight against COVID-19,” said the Minister Viorica Dumbrăveanu, during teleconferences with mayors.

Also, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and identify jointly the most effective solutions to the problems they face at the community level.

"It is a really useful dialogue, given that little information is known about the specificity of this virus and the means of intervention. These discussions are even more important as we are close to Easter holidays, when the population mobility can intensify, and the challenges at the local level will increase,” emphasized Veaceslav Rusnac, the president of the Soroca district.

Overall, more than 1,100 persons participated at the webinars.

In addition to the online conferences organized for each district, with the support of the UNDP project "Migration and local development", funded by Switzerland, on April 15, a similar event was organized for the employees of the 35 Territorial Employment Agencies, which during this period offers support in the process of job seeking to persons, including those citizens returning from abroad.
