UN Moldova Resident Coordinator Yesim Oruc's message for UN Day 2024
Dear people of Moldova, partners and colleagues,
Today we mark the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter. On today, the birthday of our United Nations, of your United Nations, we reflect on the principles and values that are enshrined in the Charter: of development, of human rights and yes, of peace,
Convening last week in New York at the Summit of the Future, member states including Moldova reaffirmed their commitment to these principles and values despite the many challenges confronting humanity, from unabated war to climate change.
I thank the Government of Moldova for the commitment to the UN Charter and the noble goals of the Organization and thank the many member states for contributing to our programs.
And on behalf of the UN Secretary General and the UN family here, I reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Moldova through these trying times while we, together, keep our eyes trained on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
On today, on the birthday of the United Nations, allow me to close by acknowledging all the UN staff serving here in Moldova. Everyday hundreds of them, many of them Moldovan nationals, from different UN agencies work with you, the people of Moldova, their government counterparts, with civil society and businesses to help create a more prosperous country where children, women and men, refugees and migrants, older people and persons with disabilities, and countless others build thriving communities. Thank you, colleagues and friends, for your service.
And to all of you, to all people of Moldova, to all member states, I wish you all a Happy United Nations Day!
