Trafficking in persons. Strengthened Moldovan-Ukrainian joint investigations discussed during a regional workshop organized by IOM Moldova

05 June 2024

  • During June 4-5, The International Organization for Migration organized a regional workshop in partnership, and under the initiative of the General Prosecutor's Office in the Republic Moldova on "Trafficking in persons and illegal migration in the context of the war in Ukraine and the refugee crisis".

The event was attended by representatives of public law enforcement bodies, such as prosecutors, investigators and border officers, both from Moldova and Ukraine who shared their expertise on the cross-border particularities of trafficking in persons and irregular migration in the context of the full-scale war in Ukraine, on respect for the rights of victims of crime, and specific actions to strengthen joint investigations.

The workshop contributes to increasing the level of bilateral cooperation between the law enforcement bodies of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, in particular by establishing common criteria for identifying potential victims of human trafficking and risks of vulnerability of refugees.

The event was organized with the financial support of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments of the European Commission within the project " Strengthening the national capacity of Moldova to provide quality protection, education, health services and socio-economic opportunities for Ukrainian refugees".
