United Nations Day - message of the Resident Coordinator of UN in Moldova, Simon Springett
Dear friends and partners,
Today we celebrate United Nations Day.
On this day we celebrate the core values and principles of the United Nations Charter which unite us as a global community and underpins our Common Agenda
2022 was not an easy year. The war in Ukraine has challenged the global community and brought untold suffering. Rising prices for food, gas and energy, and a severe drought has affected all citizens of Moldova and has put an enormous burden on families and government alike.
On this United Nations Day, I reconfirm the United Nations as a committed partner to the people and the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
For 30 years, since Republic of Moldova became a member of the United Nations, we have been working to support the Government and its citizens to achieve its goals and aspirations, a European country where people build a future at home and no-one person is left behind.
The United Nations in Moldova is determined to continue supporting the country with addressing development challenges to ensure inclusive social and economic development and achieving national priorities as outlined by the European Moldova 2030 National Development Strategy.
We need to work together across all sectors and at all levels from individuals to communities and with Government and partners.
We must all become champions of change.
We need collective problem solving through solidarity. We need commitment to multilateralism.
We need hope …. A hope for a better, more peaceful future where human rights are respected, gender equality is achieved, and climate change is mitigated.
Only, by acting together, can we nurture and deliver on this for both people and planet.
I wish you all a very Happy United Nations Day!
