The Prime Minister, Natalia Gavriliță, and the UN Moldova Resident Coordinator, Simon Springett, chaired the 5th meeting of the Steering Committee of the UN-Moldova Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development 2018-2022

The event was attended by the Deputy Prime-minister, Andrei Spinu, ministers of external affairs and European integration, economy, environment, finance, health, labour and social protection and head of state chancellery, members of the Steering Committee of the UN-Moldova Partnership Framework, as well as representatives of UN agencies in our country.

The meeting highlighted the progress made in 2021, in the context of the UN-Moldova Partnership Framework, as well there were presented the joint work plans for 2022. Additionally, there were presented the conclusions and results of the evaluation of the current Partnership Framework that ends in 2022.

In her welcome address, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of the Moldovan Government cooperation with the UN family in various areas aimed at ensuring the well-being of citizens and respect for human rights, strengthening the education and health system, promoting a circular economy, protecting the environment and building an inclusive society.

“The United Nations institutions have been supporting Moldova for almost 30 years in achieving its major development goals and fulfilling its main vision to be a prosperous and modern European country. Regardless of the level national, local, regional, general, sectorial or intersectoral the cooperation with the United Nations’ agencies has been always based on solidarity, mutual consent and confidence. ” mentioned the prime-minister Natalia Gavrilita

The support given to the Republic of Moldova and its citizens to fight against COVID-19 and recover from the pandemic is one of the main achievements of the previous year. As well, digitalization of the process of collecting and analyzing national statistics data, improving the quality of national and local public services, strengthening the capacity to adapt to climate changes in the agriculture, informing and raising public awareness about human rights, gender equality, elimination of gender-based violence or vaccination against COVID-19 were among other important achievements in 2021.

“As Moldova seeks to boost its economic development, accelerate progress on the SDG Agenda, and deliver on the Association Agreement – the United Nations stands ready to be a strong and reliable partner. As we look ahead in 2022, the United Nations reconfirms its commitment to supporting government priorities for the wellbeing of all citizens.” underlined Simon Springett.

In 2022, UN Moldova in coordination with the Government of the Republic of Moldova will develop and approve the new UN-Moldova Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development for the years 2023-2027.
