A Tourist Information Center was opened in Tiraspol thanks to EU support

19 May 2017

  • Tourists who were considering exploring the left bank of the Nistru River can make their trip more memorable. A Tourist Information Center, opened today in Tiraspol, will recommend tourist destinations, accommodation possibilities, and other relevant information for foreign visitors or locals, who want to discover new touristic attractions. This is one of the projects implemented within the framework of the EU-funded Support to Confidence Building Measures (SCBM) Programme, implemented by the UNDP.

The Center was created as a result of a cross-river cooperation platform established by the Agency for Regional Development from Tiraspol and the Association of Hotel and Restaurants of Moldova.

The consultations about the touristic facilities are being provided both in Russian and English languages and are free of charge. The visitors can also pick up various brochures, guidebooks and buy unique souvenirs made by local craftsmen.

“This is a way to promote the left bank of the Nistru River as an attractive destination, creating a unified information environment for guests and residents of the city which allows planning a trip”, says Tatiana Yaskova, Head of the Agency for Regional Development from Tiraspol.

The Tiraspol Center will closely cooperate with the Touristic Information Center that is to be opened soon in Chisinau, with co-financing from the European Union. “Both centers will exchange information and will cross promote tourism attractions from both banks of the Nistru River”, notes Natalia Turcanu, Executive Director of the National Inbound Tourism Association of Moldova.

“This Center in Tiraspol is an asset for those who obtain their income by providing services to tourists, both external and internal”, says Ludmila Tsehovici, Head of the touristic complex Dnestrovskii sad, from the left bank.

Tiraspol Tourist Information Center is located close to the railway and bus stations, which is very convenient for tourists and visitors of the city, at the address: Soviet street, house nr.135. It will operate daily from 9 am to 6 pm. Consultations will be provided to groups of tourists as well as to individual travellers. The contact phone is 0000 373 (533) 50801.

The Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme aims to increase trust between the people from both banks of the Nistru River by involving local authorities, civil society organisations, and business community representatives in joint activities in two core areas: business development and improving community infrastructure. The Programme has a total budget of 10 million Euro, provided by the European Union and is implemented by the UNDP.
