UN Global Road Safety Week in the Republic of Moldova - Save lives - #SlowDown

- The NGO "Automobile Club of Moldova" announces the launching of the fourth edition of the UN Global Road Safety Week in the Republic of Moldova, which will take place from 8 to 14 May 2017 in Chisinau.
The purpose of the event is to attract public attention to the problem of excessive speed as the main risk factor and first cause of deaths and injuries resulting from road traffic accidents and at the same time to identify potential measures to address and solve this problem. Thus, the action Save lives - #SlowDown (Save lives - #ReducețiViteza) was launched as part of the campaign.
The action #SlowDown aims to increase the understanding and public awareness of the excessive speed risks. It comprises a series of excessive acceleration prevention activities to save millions of lives on the roads. At the same time, the action is part of the urgently taken measures for a 50% reduction the number of deaths and injuries by 2020, which is one of the main targets of the Agenda for the next 15 years (2030), comprised of 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The campaign is organized by the Automobile Club of Moldova in collaboration with the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, the National Patrol Inspectorate, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the support of the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST), the International Federation of Motoring (FIA), the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Moldova and will include a series of events.
- 10 May 2017, 12:00 - Exhibition of children's drawings on the subject #SlowDown will take place at the premises of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova with the participation of the President of the Parliament, ministers, MPs and diplomats.
- 12 May 2017 - Flash-mob “Slow down”, organized by students, teachers and with the participation of invited celebrities will take place at the high school “Stefan cel Mare”.
- 13 May 2017 - The booth #SlowDown will be part of the Europe Day’s framework in the “Stefan cel Mare” Public Garden.
Requested by the United Nations General Assembly, the Fourth United Nations Global Road Safety Week will be held from 8-14 May 2017. This Week will focus on speed management and what can be done to address this key risk factor for road traffic deaths and injuries.
