UN inspires on using blockchain – a technology that cannot be corrupted – at Moldova ICT Summit 2017

The United Nations tests, for the first time in Moldova, blockchain's potential and benefits. The initiative is led by Social Innovation Lab (MiLab), a project of the United Nations Development Programme and the Center for Electronic Government.

"Encountering blockchain's benefits such as transparency, security and efficiency, inspires to finding widely spread practices. Only after being piloted and tested at UN Moldova, we will reveal various ways to make use of its benefits both within the institution, and in the public sector", said Mariana Gurghis, Data Research Officer at Moldova Social Innovation Lab.

During December 2016 - August 2017, UN is piloting blockchain technology to develop a fleet management system of UN vehicles, to ensure efficiency, transparency and data availability regarding the use of the vehicles by the UN entities. This pilot will also contribute to reducing administrative costs.  

The innovative solution will be tested via desktop and mobile application, developed by Deeplace company. Then, the solution will be piloted for three months.

Blockchain technology is a secured mechanism, incorruptible, decentralized and transparent, which does not allow changing data once being saved. Blockchain allows each user to connect to a shared database, open source, to connect to a peer-to-peer network and to manage the system on an autonomous way.
