Over 1000 jobs will be created in 6 localities in the country

The direct beneficiaries of the projects will be about 200 small and medium enterprises, agricultural producers, processing enterprises from textile, trade and industrial products industries, as well as economic agents residents of industrial parks of Edinet and Straseni municipalities. The indirect beneficiaries of the projects implemented will be over 1,200 farms from rural areas from closely adjacent localities. Following the implementation of these projects, new jobs, half of which will be taken up by women, will be created.

The Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova Simone Giger says: “Rural development depends on the viability of local business environment. This is why the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation supports local public authorities in upgrading the economic infrastructure to attract investors in villages and towns in Moldova. Local economic development and creation of better paid jobs is the best solution to the challenges posed by migration in Moldova”.

Of the total value of projects amounting to 176 thousand USD, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation provides six grants totalling 120 thousand USD, local authorities co-finance with the amount of 20 thousand USD, and business environment contributes more than 36 thousand USD.

The Mayor of Carpineni town Ion Carpineanu says: “City Hall is the key link between business and community development as a whole. As a result of this project, the Carpineni natural gas network will be extended and the capacity of the electricity network will be increased so that economic operators that are already active could double their production capacity. Consequently, 200 new jobs will be available for local population”.

These six projects will improve business support infrastructure (expansion, construction of water supply, sewerage and electricity networks), will offer opportunities for production of alternative energy resources, will create conditions for processing agricultural production and for attracting new investors in industrial parks to boost local potential and promote investment opportunities.

Eventually, the number of new jobs in these six towns could increase by another 2000 after completion of the projects.

The projects have been selected following a competition to which 23 beneficiary localities of the Migration and Local Development Project, selected in 2015 through an open and competitive process, have been invited.
