The European Union supports business development projects in Gagauzia and Taraclia

  • The European Union aims to develop local entrepreneurship, create new jobs and contribute to increasing incomes in ATU Gagauzia and Taraclia district. For this end, the European Union provides financial assistance to establish new businesses and develop small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) in the region. Thus, startups and experienced entrepreneurs in the region can benefit up to 18,400 EUR, through the EU funded “Support to Agriculture and Rural Development in ATU Gagauzia and Taraclia” (SARD) Programme, implemented by UNDP.

Project proposals for financing by the European Union through the SARD Programme may be submitted during 17 October – 15 November 2016. This is the first round of the competition to supports business development projects in Gagauzia and Taraclia. The second round of the competition will be announced in May 2017.

Application forms for the first competition, the conditions of participation and project selection criteria are available here. Entrepreneurs from the ATU Gagauzia and Taraclia district, either startups or experienced entrepreneurs, who may contribute with 20% of the amount requested, are eligible applicants. Besides financial support, selected entrepreneurs will benefit from guidance and individual counseling in business during a year.

The EU funded SARD Programme will conduct, together with Pro-Consulting Company, four information sessions on the terms and conditions of the competition, as follows: Comrat (20 October 2016, the meeting room of the Comrat State University), Taraclia (21 October 2016, the Culture House of the town), Ceadir-Lunga (25 October 2016, the meeting room of the District Council) and Vulcanesti (26 October 2016, the meeting room of the District Council). The support for local entrepreneurship initiatives and SMEs’ development from ATU Gagauzia and Taraclia district is one of the three components  of the SARD Programme. It also conducts activities to empower the community, refurbish small-scale infrastructure and promote inter-municipal cooperation in the region. Being financed by the European Union with 6.5 million EUR and implemented by UNDP, the SARD Programme aims to boost the collaboration between central and local authorities, as well as among the regional organizations from ATU Gagauzia and Taraclia district, so as to foster the social-economic development of the region and of the Republic of Moldova as a whole.
