Press Release

European standard creative centre for children from Dubasari, the left bank of Nistru

24 June 2016

  • Children form Dubasari, on the left bank of Nistru, could spent their leisure time in a useful manner and safe conditions. Hence, the community creative centre was renovated with the support of the European Union, within the” Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Annually, over 750 children attend the workshops of the Creative centre: tailoring, canto or choreography. Besides children from the locality, kids from Lunga, Corjova and Cocieri villages also visit the 30 occupational fields in order to capitalize on their talents. However, due to the lack of basic conveniences, the number of children constantly decreased.

In its 65 years, this was the first time to modernize the building. The European Union granted in this purpose EUR 136,614 – funds difficult to mobilise at local level. The old roofs, windows and doors were changed and the unreliable heating system was replaced by a new one. The façade – first impression about any institution – was renovated, and the décor elements – restored. The completion of reconstruction works is estimated for this autumn.

“We will also have a modern festivity hall. Earlier, we had no heating system and the activities dedicated to winter holidays took place in a cold environment. We are sure that with the arrival of a new school year, much more children will join our Creative centre due to new conditions”, said Oxana Voitehovscaia, the director of institution.

Children and parents are waiting for the moment when the centre with improved conditions will resume its activity. The most important thing for parents is to benefit of an institution where children could spend their leisure time well and capitalize on their talents.

The creative centre is modernised within an European programme aiming to enhance confidence between residents on both banks of Nistru. Children on both banks of Nistru benefit from its services. Several joint activities organized in partnership by the creative centre from Dubasari and similar institutions on the right bank are planned.

At present, about 20 objects of social infrastructure on both banks of the Nistru River are modernised via this Programme: schools, cultural houses, medical facilities etc.

“Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme was launched in 2009 and is financed by the EU and implemented by the UNDP.
