Donation of PPEs and Detection equipment in the amount of 30,000 EUR supported by IOM Mission to Moldova to the General Inspectorate of Border Police and National Administration of Penitentiaries

The main purpose of this project activities is to enhance the capacities of the border police and penitentiary institutions to ensure infection prevention control management by improving access to personal protective equipment (PPEs), WASH supplies, fever detection equipment, as well as relevant lifesaving medical devices against COVID-19 infection.

In this regard, on the 26th and 27th of November, 2020, the IOM Mission to Moldova delivered the first batch of PPEs and equipment, such as: 130000 protective masks, 100000 nitrile gloves and 16 Thermography Scanners donated to the General Inspectorate of the Border Police as well 1000 protective coveralls, 40000 powdered latex gloves, 1000 respirators FFP2, FFP3, 30000 protective masks and one electrocardiograph to the National Administration of Penitentiaries. The value of the current donation is 30000 EUR. 

Mr. Corneliu ​Groza, Head of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, mentioned the considerable support provided to the Border Police in combating the cross-border spread of the new virus: " We thank the International Organization for Migration for being with us since the beginning of the pandemic and for supporting us continuously in implementing those special control measures at the state border crossing points. Today's donation, but also all the protective equipment previously received, are more than necessary for the front-line border police staff." concluded Corneliu Groza.

Mr. Vladimir Cojocaru Director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries (NAP) mentioned: “NAP system is grateful for the current received donation and would like to thank the development partners: IOM, UNODC and the Embassy Office of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chisinau for their contribution, which is particularly important in these times of crisis.  We assure that the equipment will be used according to the destination to face the global pandemic crisis of COVID-19 ".

The donation is carried out with the financial support of the Embassy Office of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chisinau within the project “Enhancing the Republic of Moldova’s COVID-19 preparedness and urgent response capacity in the International Borders and Penitentiaries”. The project activities are implemented in close coordination with the General Inspectorate of Border Police (GIBP) and National Administration of Penitentiaries (NAP) as the primary counterparts.
