Ninety teachers from Cahul and Ungheni attend the program for strengthening innovative student-centred teaching-learning practices

Teachers will learn how to use generative artificial intelligence tools to enhance learning and implement collaborative and reflexive teaching methods. Teachers are also encouraged to develop STEAM projects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), which promote critical thinking, creativity and practical use of knowledge acquired during classes. The training sessions are delivered by a team of local and international experts in education. The participants and the team of trainers will continue to collaborate after the program completion. Teachers will be guided in developing learning activities with innovative elements and implementing them during classes.

Valentina Olaru, State Secretary, Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova: “By working with our partners in this project, we want to implement an innovative teaching method, using technology as the main tool. We also intend to provide the teachers with the necessary training that would allow them to use the technology efficiently and to integrate Artificial Intelligence in the classroom. Thus, students will be involved directly in their learning, will be able to explore the subjects thoroughly and will develop valuable skills for their professional future. We are aware that this transformation will need considerable time and resources, but we are committed to investing in the education of the future, together with our partners”.

Ilija Talev, Deputy Country Representative, UNICEF Moldova: “This event is a collaborative effort between UNICEF, the Ministry of Education and Research, and the Association of ICT Companies (ATIC) of Moldova. It has the goal to strengthen teachers' knowledge and skills in delivering interactive and engaging STEAM subjects content to students in Cahul and Ungheni, that will later be replicated and expanded in the rest of the country. We are interested in exploring how new technologies can improve the classroom learning experience and improve educational outcomes. Together with our partners and teachers, we are taking these important steps toward digitally transforming education in the country, for the purpose of improving quality and inclusion, and building a more promising future for Moldova's children.”

Valerica Zidu, Computer Science Teacher, “Alexei Mateevici” Theoretical High School, Alexandru Ioan Cuza v., Cahul d.: “In the digital era, teachers face an increasing challenge of getting students’ attention during classes. By attending the training program, we aim to acquire the necessary skills to create a engaging learning environment for students and we are convinced that using digital technologies is the key to engaging these digital natives in the study of STEAM subjects”.

At the same time, a digital course will be developed under the program, focusing on the use of digital tools in interactive, student-centred teaching. The course will be available online to all the teachers in the Republic of Moldova. The total value of the project is about EUR 110,000 and is funded by the European Union.
