Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Thank you for joining us this evening.  On this United Nations Day, in Moldova and across the world, we are celebrating the anniversary of the ratification of the United Nations Charter and the establishment of the United Nations. Today we are also marking our commitment to the spirit and strength of multilateralism and to the work of the United Nations.

The United Nations Charter, our shared moral anchor, sends a clear message to put people first. In this spirit, it is a great honour for me to be joined by so many of the people who everyday make the work and aspirations of the United Nations in Moldova a reality. Government counterparts, member states, development partners, civil society, colleagues, and friends, I am proud of our joint achievements and lasting contribution to Moldova’s human rights and development priorities to improve the opportunities of all people in the country, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

Our joint efforts are guided by the Republic of Moldova – United Nations Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development, an ambitious five-year agreement between the United Nations and the Government of the Republic of Moldova aimed at bringing significant positive change guided by the Sustainable Development Goals. Two year’s has passed since we embarked on its implementation and we are making, together with our partners, progress towards achieving our collective goals. 

With the 2030 deadline for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals fast approaching, we call on our friends in civil society, including the youth, in media, unions and academia to mobilize partnerships for a Sustainable Development. We appeal to innovators and disruptors, our friends in the private sector, to embrace new business models that correspond to the needs of the 2030 Agenda. We call on the world of science, friends in research and technology, to ensure that new technologies narrow the digital and broader technological divide and are geared towards the common good. We need to move together, leaving no one behind. For people and planet. 

I would like to highlight here that next year is not only an important year for Moldova, but also marks the United Nation’s 75th anniversary. We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with all of you and to provide all the necessary support in realising the national priorities and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by year 2030.
