Thank you for the opportunity to join you today
Let me commend the government – for the government decision on the Temporary Protection Mechanism, that gives for refugees a legal regime of importance and for government, humanitarian, and development actors substantial legal and policy space to support refugees’ additional access to a large range of services - including education, health care, employment, accommodation, protection, and social assistance.
All through this crisis we have all been working hard to ensure that we strengthen systems, at both national and local levels. That refugee families and hosting families are supported, and that we work hard together to ensure humanitarian assistance and development cooperation take into account a collective approach to programming priorities and support to communities.
The temporary protection mechanism gives us another mechanism to drive coordination and to link our collective responses to. It will be vitally important how this is communicated to potential recipients and additionally how we work together to ensure that protections afforded are supported.
I look forward to hearing views today on how best to ensure the implementation can best achieved, at speed, for the benefit of all those requiring protection.
