Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, colleagues and members of the Press.
It is my honour to address you today on the occasion of the official launch of a coordinated joint UN programme in support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
The far-reaching consequences of the war in Ukraine continues to have impact on families and communities across Moldova. As the cold season progresses, these impacts on the cost of living are unavoidable and outside of the government’s control.
We all feel the enormity of responsibility to support citizens and communities amidst the current and likely prolonged period of uncertainty and instability and to ensure that no one is left behind.
From the beginning, the UN system in Moldova was committed to a joint coordinated response that complements the refugee emergency response with development interventions addressing the impacts of the socio-economic crises, through our Socio-Economic Response Offer.
Going forward, the UN Country Team’s new Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework has an important focus on building resilience against future shocks and crisis, and to enhance social protection schemes benefiting both vulnerable refugees and Moldovans, families and children, while promoting social cohesion.
As the Secretary-General noted during his recent visits to Moldova, the United Nations remains a strong and reliable partner to the Government and the people of Moldova.
