Training manual for doctors on domestic and gender-based violence, developed with the support of UNDP and Sweden

12 July 2022

  • A training manual on domestic and gender-based violence was developed for Moldovan doctors. This was possible thanks to the support of the Women's Law Center, offered in the framework of the project "Strengthening efficiency and access to justice in Moldova", implemented by UNDP Moldova with the financial support of Sweden.

The training manual is intended for medical students, residents, clinicians and teachers at the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicolae Testemitanu". The manual contains theoretical information to help doctors and future doctors to better understand the issues of domestic and gender-based violence, to streamline their professional intervention and to ensure that victims' rights are respected. At the same time, it includes recommendations for documenting the medical act and bodily injuries, on how to assess the risks and other useful materials for the development of doctors' practical skills.

"The Republic of Moldova has recently implemented several actions aimed at ensuring gender equality between women and men, as well as preventing and combating domestic violence. However, the success of these actions can be ensured only by the involvement of trained professionals, including medical staff, who are immune to social stereotypes and norms," says Arina Țurcan-Donțu, lawyer, Women's Law Center and co-author of the training manual.

The course "Domestic and gender-based violence", established in 2018, was recently awarded a silver medal at the European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation 2022.
