65 young unemployed from vulnerable groups found jobs due to pilot training programme in Moldova

The beneficiaries of the pilot program were unemployed youth between 18 and 35 without skills, from disadvantaged groups all over the Republic of Moldova. They were trained at the workplace for 3-5 months, according to employers’ needs in areas with high labour force shortage. At the end of the pilot program, the young beneficiaries received a professional qualification certificate and were hired by the companies. 26 youngsters graduated as cooks and 39 as tailors.

At the closing conference on the pilot program, Ms. Svetlana Cebotari, Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection, said, “We are glad to present these positive results today and want to continue the on-the-job training programme. Now with the adoption of the new Labour Law, we will implement this programme broadly across the country”.

Ms Violeta Vrabie, ILO Project Coordinator,  added: “This programme comes as a solution allowing the integration of disadvantaged young people into the labour market. At the same time it reduces the gap between demand and supply side, providing employers with the skilled workforce and young people with the opportunity to practice a profession and be employed. –The UN Sustainable Development Goals aim to promote the growth of an inclusive and lasting economy, employment and decent work for all. The ILO project contributes to the global goals through various actions that promote employment and boost school-to-work transition, Violeta Vrabie said.

Crina Stempovschi, a 17-year-old woman from the town of Glodeni was among the beneficiaries of the pilot programme. At the conference, she said that this programme helped her to find her vocation and a suitable job. „I have been looking for a job for a long time, but no one hires a young person without skills and experience. This programme offered me both an unpaid training and a stipend during the study period, and by the end of the programme I discovered my passion for tailoring and found a job with perspectives in a good collective”, she added.  

The on-the-job training is one of the actions included in the Employment Law approved yesterday by the Government. It is also one of priorities of National Employment Strategy for 2017-2021.
