The Government of the Republic of Moldova and the United Nations signed a new programme of cooperation for 2018-2022

The new programme of cooperation, “Republic of Moldova-United Nations Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development 2018-2022”, is guided by national development priorities, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its associated 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The programme will help Moldova overcome its development challenges in four priority areas:

1. Governance, human rights and gender equality        
2. Sustainable, inclusive and equitable economic growth         
3. Environmental sustainability and resilience  
4. Inclusive and equitable social development

At the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Pavel Filip highlighted: “2018-2022 cooperation framework will address the challenges existing in the field of development and ensure the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and is in line with the strategic development priorities of the Government. We are confident in the advancement of our cooperation with the UN, which aims at supporting the Government's effort towards sustainable development of the country and improvement of citizens’ life quality.”

“The new Partnership Framework is the result of broad consultations with the Government, civil society and other partners. It builds on experience gained from the previous programme and further deepens the cooperation between Moldova and the UN. Representatives of groups vulnerable to discrimination and human rights violations were extensively consulted to ensure that their perspectives and needs are met by the new programme”, said Dafina Gercheva, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative.

Under the Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development 2018-2022, the UN will work together with the Government of the Republic of Moldova to make a lasting contribution to national human rights and development priorities and to improve the living conditions of all the people living in the country, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

In the area of governance, human right and gender equality, the UN will continue to work towards strengthening governance and rule of law, so that the people of Moldova, in particular the most vulnerable, demand and benefit from democratic, transparent and accountable governance, gender-sensitive, human rights- and evidence-based public policies, equitable services, and efficient, effective and responsive public institutions.

To address issues related to inclusive economic growth, the UN will contribute to creating opportunities of decent work and productive employment. In the field of environment, the UN will focus on support of local public authorities and private sector actors for expansion of renewables and energy efficiency in public and residential buildings, disaster risk management and support for biodiversity conservation.

In the area of inclusive and equitable social development, the UN will contribute to better education, health and social policies and services.

The Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development 2018-2022 includes over 15 resident and non-resident UN agencies, funds and programmes, which through their work, contribute to the achievement of Moldova’s development priorities.

The United Nations established a presence in the Republic of Moldova through its specialized programmes and agencies soon after the country’s adherence to the United Nations in 1992.
