Thanks to the EU in Dorotcaia people from both banks of the Nistru River celebrated Martisor together

The Events’ Room from the Cultural Hall in Dorotcaia, with 600 seats, was full. The Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola, representatives of local authorities, rayon inhabitants, and guests from both banks came to celebrate together the arrival of spring.

The artists from Dorotcaia and Carmanovo, the left bank of the Nistru River, have shown their mastery in making martsisors, items from wood and husk. One by one, the local artistic bands went on the stage, as well as the guests from the left bank communities – Grigoriopol, Dubasari and Harmatskoe.

Pirkka Tapiola, EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, mentioned during the event: Our European history teaches us all that such places might become symbols of reconciliation and source of inspiration. Certain courage is needed as well as a good will and commitment of many people and as many contacts as possible to build the invisible bridges of trust. This event in this symbolic place is an excellent example of the confidence building process.

Dorotcaia is the village where young people from both banks of the Nistru River are being raised and educated. Students from Grigoriopol study at the theoretical Lyceum „Ștefan cel Mare”, also attending together with the local children the Arts School, dance and music clubs in the Cultural Hall, mentioned the Mayor of Dorotcaia village, Valeriu Berzan.

With over 189 thousand Euro, the Cultural Hall from Dorotcaia was fully renovated for the first time in 50 years since its first inauguration. The leaking roof and the façade of the building suffered the biggest intervention. The frescoes that distinguish the Cultural Hall from Dorotcaia out of many others were preserved during the reconstruction works, keeping their original view. The doors and windows from wood and the engineering networks were totally changed, and the interior of the building was repaired.

Thus, those over 300 children attending the arts clubs and those one thousand subscribers of the library hosted by the Cultural Hall will enjoy better conditions. Four bands are hosted by the Cultural Hall: Fanfare Band “Generation”, the Vocal Instrumental Band “Miracle”, the folk band “Nistrenii” and the folk music band “Doina Nistrului”.                   

The Cultural Hall from Dorotcaia is one of over 70 infrastructure sites renovated through the European Union funded “Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme implemented by UNDP Moldova. The Programme contributes to enhancing the confidence between people living on both banks of the Nistru River by involving the representatives of local authorities, business environment, and civil society in joint projects of business development and social infrastructure improvement.
