UNFPA launched the initiative "The World We Want to Build"

17 November 2016

  • The future interior designers from the Centre of Excellence in Construction will participate in the initiative supported by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Moldova, entitled "The World We Want to Build".

The future designers will create during the months of November and December art works that will reflect their vision on UNFPA priorities and solutions for Moldova. The artworks will be displayed at an auction, which will take place at the Centre for Excellence in Construction on 15 December 2016, just before the winter holidays.

During the launching event, students learned about the work of UNFPA, the impact the organization has on the lives of youth and women in Moldova. The United Nations Population Fund in the Republic of Moldova and the Centre of Excellence in Construction through this initiative come to support the future interior designers in developing their creative talent and expressing their vision on the world in which they want to build.

"It is a joint initiative of UNFPA and interior design students to organize an exhibition of art works that have been or will be created in accordance with the UNFPA mission," said Valeriu Pelivan Director of the Centre for Excellence in Construction.

Students will be supported by UNFPA with necessary materials to create different visual images and symbols that come to reflect their vision on issues such as sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people, combating gender-based violence, investment in youth.

"Those students in the community of future designers, who try new approaches, who are not afraid to experiment, they will be the first to come with proposals to work with new approaches and to translate the UNFPA key messages into art," said Veronica Cretu, Director of the Institute for Open Governance and coordinator of the initiative.

Although it is the first time these young people will participate in such an initiative, they are open to cooperation and have already thought about topics and how to express them visually. "I will represent sexuality education for young people which is very important because young people are the future of our country," says Madalina Cretu who is a student.

The collaboration between the Centre for Excellence in Construction and UNFPA is a way for society to find out about the mission of the organization, but also an opportunity for young people to explore their artistic talents.

UNFPA is grateful to "Stiri Pozitive" for partnership in mediatisation of the initiative "The World We Want to Build”.
