Peacebuilding Otherwise – A Guide for Facilitating Non-Formal Peace Education in Communities
New Guide Offers Tools for Non-Formal Peace Education in Moldova
As part of ongoing efforts to foster social cohesion and inclusivity, UN Human Rights Moldova has launched a new knowledge tool: Peacebuilding Otherwise – A Guide for Facilitating Non-Formal Peace Education in Communities.
Rooted in the lived experiences of teachers and school staff from both banks of the Nistru/Dniester River, the Guide presents practical tools, participatory methodologies, and case studies designed to address discrimination, promote an inclusive school environment, and strengthen local capacities for sustaining peace. It emphasizes the importance of experiential learning, ethical facilitation/pedagogy, and community-driven action in building social cohesion.
The Guide was developed in the framework of the project “Building sustainable and inclusive peace, strengthening trust and social cohesion on both banks of Nistru/Dniester River” implemented jointly by UN Human Rights (OHCHR), UNDP and UN Women, and financed by the UN Peacebuilding Fund (UN PBF). It builds on earlier efforts to empower educators as peacebuilders, including training of trainers, cross-river exchanges and non-formal education practices implemented throughout 2023-24. It complements the UN’s ongoing commitment to inclusive education and social inclusion in Moldova.
